Resumen RESUMEN: Al morir Henry Dashwood, su herencia pasa por ley al hijo que tuvo de su primer matrimonio, John, y su avariciosa mujer, Fanny. Estas circunstancias dejan a su mujer actual y a sus tres hijas, Elinor, Marianne y Margaret, sin hogar y con pocos recursos económicos. Pero antes de que tengan que abondonar el lugar donde viven, aparecen en sus vidas Edward, el tímido y amable hermano de Fanny, del que se enamora Elinor. Pero la pareja no tendrá la oportunidad de expresar sus sentimientos, ya que Fanny, -que desprecia a Elinor y no ve con buenos ojos su afición a la poesía-, inventa una excusa para mandar a su hermano a Londres. Mientras, Marianne inicia una apasionada relación con el atractivo Willoughby; una historia muy pública y llevada con tan poca prudencia que despierta la desaprobación de su hermana.
