Resumen Resumen: In a study of the European venture capital industry during the early 1980's, Tyebjee and Vickery (1988) concluded that "Venture capital is as yet in its infancy in Western Europe... the investment activity manifested by European venture capitalists has been relatively small". They noted that European venture capitalists invested about one-eighth as much as their U. S. counterparts over the four years from 1981-84. Even after allowing for the different sizes of the economies the figures were only slightly less dramatic; viewed as a fraction of gross domestic product European investment was about 22 percent of U. S. levels.
